RK952/MB24 history

The Musée De L'Armée near the centre of Brussels houses this rare NF.30 night-fighter version of the Mosquito. RK952 was built at Leavesdon in early 1945 and delivered to the RAF on 25th May 1945 at 218 MU and moved to 10 MU on 11th July for storage.

The aircraft was sold as part of a batch of 24 Mosquitoes to Belgium at the end of October 1951 as an attrition replacement aircraft and was delivered in mid-1953 as MB24 following an overhaul by Fairey Aviation at Ringway.

Mosquito RK952 was issued to No. 10 Squadron coded ND-N until 18 August 1955 when all Mosquitoes except MB24 were grounded at Beauvechain due to excessive wear on their engine bearers and undercarriage units. MB24, having already been modified, continued to fly, being used for radar calibration flights and as a target for the squadron's Meteors until all Belgian mosquito night-fighters were struck off charge on 17 October 1956 and MB24 was allocated for preservation in the Brussels Air Museum.

In recent years, members of the museum have restored MB24 to excellent condition, many of the missing parts having been found and re-fitted to the aircraft. Edward Bishop donated a pair of NF.30 specific exhaust stubs to the museum in return for a pair of Mosquito drop-tanks for the Mosquito air Museum.

Notes: An abortive restoration 'some years ago' resulted in many of the cockpit parts being lost - can anyone tell me whether the aircraft is now complete? When did this previous abortive restoration occur and when did Edward Bishop actually do the swap mentioned? If you can answer these question, please contact me!
